The best way to go about getting a credit card is to first establish credit through a small loan. Many times, the Credit Union will grant small limits to first-time card applicants. Consult a Credit Union representative on what it will take to be approved. Because a credit card is a revolving loan, you must be capable of making payments on a monthly basis.

Caution – if you take advantage of using the card and do not make timely payments, you may find yourself “hotcarded.” Your card will be taken and you will have a very difficult time getting another.
